My dad has a 91 Silverado and I want to buy it. It is the old plow truck and it's rusty but it runs. He has all the tools to fix it. I'm looking for a cheap first truck and I thought me and my friend, with the help of my dad who is a mechanic could fix it. My main concern is rust on the doors, the fender right in front of the door and on the extended part of the cab.
Thanks in advanced.

To me rust is the toughest thing to tackle. If the rust is real bad and spread, it is probably not worth the time and expense. If you want to do it for the fun and experience then go for it.

I'm with oldchevy on the rust issue, it's really hard to deal with it. I'd say just get it running good, lubed well, dry inside, and use the ol girl for the next 20+ years just like it is.

usually you can buy some cheap patch panels (around 50 bucks)
simply cut, weld, grind back your welds, spray with sandable primer, and paint
DONE!
