Default help with 383..

well i am thinking of building a 383 stroker and so i bought a 400 crank because i was told i can use this to build it and i also did some reading. i went to a shop today and the guy and the machine shop said i cant use it i should get rid of it or something. i then talked to other people and they all said that the guy is dumb to do what i want. the build im doin is more of a budget type. tomorrow i am going to another machine shop so i can take my block to them. what i want to know is what pistons and rods should i use for this build i am going for a budget but then again i want my engine to be good. :-) should i go with forged pistons?

stock 350 rods, flat top pistons, forged are ok. the 400 crank is what you need, but it needs to have the journals turned to fit the 350 block main saddles. you may have to have the block notched to allow the counterweights of the crank to clear the block. a GOOD shop will know what to do. this other guy you talked to should not be dealt with.

as much as i wouldnt want to dissagree with maxman, i do u need 400 rods not 350, all else he said i agree with. myself i would go with forged pistons, 383's are hard on rings so u will want good pistons

not to start an argument with 2wd-k5, but you can in fact use the 5.7" 350 rods. here's the proof:

we are both right, stock crank uses the stock 400' 5.565 rods but the trick flow's crank uses the 5.7" rods, there has to be something that isnt mentioned like if it is a tall deck block for the trick flow or shorter piston hieght on the stock crank, this has hooked my intrest im gonna look into this more
