Yes 4.3 with throttle body injection. The rear drivers leaf spring started to fray, the exhaust manifold was leaking, and the head gasket went on the passanger side. I could have had it all fixed for under a grand but I wanted something newer. The body was also starting to go.
I ended up with this one
Yes they are the same rims. I still have the 2001 Astro but now drive this
See a trend here. All chev. bowtie all the way

4.3
I have a 91 with 2k on the 4.3, i call it my little workhorse, and it has more than earned its title over the years in its performance and reliability in all areas. It has made two trips to canada and alaska with an overwieght camper with the only modification bieng the addition of an external trans. cooler. the only flaw that i have incountered would be leaking valve guide seals "which are common and expected if you have been a loyal chevy owner for many years" in most gm engines more of an aggrivation than anything else a slight puff of smoke on starting not really an issue and can be addressed if and when it needs the top end freshened up the 4.3 is one of the more popular swaps for jeep owners in performance upgrades because it performs equally well both on and off the trail, with little or no major maintance issues that are common in other applications It accepts performance upgrades and delivers fairly easly, try to run toe to toe with a monsoon or a kyclone of the early 90's and you will very quickly gain a new respect for this little power house. overall i give this a thumbs up and would not think twice about owning another one

Those older 4.3s really don't compare to the new vortec.
I have driven mine like a sports car for the last 40k miles, winding out to 5600 RPMs instead of the factory 5100 setting, slamming the gears by raising the shift pressure with the programmer, etc. It has given me no trouble except for the intake manifold gasket in the first 1000 miles I owned it and a TCC for the transmission recently.

The 4.3L is amazing. When I first got my 99 jimmy it had about 75000 miles on it. I now have 120000 miles and those 45000 miles were some of the hardest miles you could put on a vehicle of this kind. Ive gone off roading in places where bigger trucks wouldn't even go. I used to floor that motor every chance I got. Its been through a tranny rebuild, a new transfer case, a front end rebuild, an accident, and 3 speeding tickets. That motor is still running strong, never stalled, never misses, always starts on the first turn over, and the compression is still very good (checked 6 months ago). All i've ever done to it was change the oil and i changed the plugs once, its never given me a problem. The 4.3L is an awesome motor, but.....it does get the mileage of an 8 cyl.

I agree with all of you on the reliability of the 4.3 and how it can easily take the beating i've been driving my blazer for the last 35,000 miles aggressively some days and like a grandma others. its always a reliable setup. when aggressive i got about 13 mpg in the city but like grandma got about 17. then highway, as long as i wasn't going over 80, slamming on the brakes or gunning it up to speed i got an amazing 21 consistently this past summer on my 280 mile road trips up to Traverse City Michigan from Detroit.
Its a great work horse who can do what you need it to when you need it to and if you treat it right will always be there for you ya know?
