i dont think there is a carb intake available for the 5.3, so you'll need the computer and wiring harness. you can pretty much use any tranny for a gm v8. this swap may take some cash from ya tho. another option is a 350 smallblock swap. this is extremely common. so much that there are books and kits made just for this. summit, jegs, p.a.w., ebay, almost anywhere online has everything needed to swap a smallblock in.

There is a carb Intake available for a 5.3 its made by MSD but I am going to stick with the fuel injected version and Painless makes a wiring harness and computer for it and your right its not cheep. But I plan on saving good chunk of change on how cheep and available low mileage 5.3 engines are now. I can get one with less then 50K miles with all the accessories for 900.00

My biggest concern other then the tranny is reworking the exhaust to accommodate the 4 O2 sensors given the position of the fuel tank and the need for a second cat. If you have any suggestion I would really appreciate it.

you could do a tank relocation to rear of truck. or `a good exhaust shop could get it routed right. the o2 sensors can be relocated anywhere in the pipe so long as you maintain 2 before and 2 after cat. a good heat shield for the tank might be in order as well.
