Default 82 s10 engine swap

Hi I am interested in swapping an inline chevy 6 cylinder into my 82 S10 it has a 5 speed so does anyone know off hand what engine would mate to that transmission ? Thanks

Are you sure an I-6 will even fit in an S-10? Your S-10 is likely a V-6. What kind of transmission do you have? Manuals were mostly Saginaw's or Borg-Warner 3 or 4 speed, not 5 speeds. .

The trans is a 5 speed manual. Probably a BW. As far as an in-line 6 fitting don't know but thought maybe somebody had done one. Thanks

Just find out the length for your Inline-6. They can last a very long time as they are inherently balanced. It's why all the new diesel trucks use I-6 diesel engines. The 250 or the 292 cubic inch motors are great Chevy engines. You simply have to make sure it will fit, so it doesn't hit the radiator. Easy to work on, since every thing is very accessible on an I-6 motor.
