Default 91 S10 Speedometer Probs

Hi to all,

I have recently acquired a 91 S10 extended cab 2wd pickup with 4.3L v-6 automatic. So far the major issue I have is the Speedometer is not working. I purchased the truck for my 16 yr old, who has exclaimed for the last year that he wanted an old Box style S-10.

So far I have changed the speed sensor, no luck. I was told that the plug at the sensor should be powered to one side? Magnetic pickup? Didn't know it needed power! Needless to say neither side of the plug is powered at the sensor. I have searched for a fuse( speedo, ABS, cluster), again no luck!

The cluster is an analog, quarter gauge, 85 mph. I have removed the cluster and reconnected to eliminate a bad connection. All other gauges in the cluster seem to work fine. I have found several replacement clusters, just don't want to throw good money after bad being a "parts changer".

Any Ideas?

I'm not familiar with that model...I beleive it uses an electro-magnetic sensor that has to have power to work properly. See if you can trace the wire and look for an open circuit (break in the wire).

I have a 92 S10. Good truck. My speedometer works, but my gas gauge is a liar below 1/4 of a tank and my gauges don't light up at all. Sorry.... not trying to steal your thread. I would guess that a fuse is broken, but that's a shot in the dark guess.
