ABS kicks on when shouldnt....?
Hi all,
I have a 1994 chevy s10 4x4 about 80-85kmiles and got great new snow tires and just got my brakes done, but i noticed that my abs kicks on when it shouldnt, this happens sometimes, not everytime i need to stop.. could this be just a worn out abs sensor or a fuse? btw this was also happening before my brakes were done and forgot to mention it, thought new brakes would fix the problem...
any help would be appreciated..
Thanx,
Vin

Double check and make sure all your new tires are the exact same size,if they are then I would check the sensor. Does your ABS light come on? You also could have fluid leaking onto your pads (wheel cylinder or axle shaft) which would cause it to grab and set off your ABS.

Check your brake fluid, if it's low it will set the light off when braking. One light should be orange(ABS) and the other light should be red(brake). Were those the lights that came on? Also different sized tires will confuse the computer as they will not turn the same speed. Double check your tire sizes to eliminate that. Is it 4 wheel ABS or 2? How do you know your ABS should not be coming on? If you have 2 wheel ABS maybe your rear tires are skidding but you can't feel it (snow tires=slippery). Your brake pedal should push back at your foot, if it does then it is working. The lights could be something else like a sensor or fluid. Check the obvious stuff first and post back.

yes the fluid is fine. everything is fine and yes those two lights came on yesterday again, it flashed on when i was doing about 45 and i noticed the same noise when abs kicks on... it is 4wheel drive and not sure if it 4 wheel abs or 2 wheel... could it be the sensors are wearing out?

I guess it could be possible your sensors are wearing out but they usally work or they don't. Maybe you have a loose connection, the only way to know is check them all starting from the master cylinder and working your way back. If you have access to a scanner you could see if any codes are stored, there should be if there is a problem. I would also check all the fuses.
