Red face Check Codes? 1988 S10

Hi, I'm new here. I searched the archives for a topic about how to check 88 S10 codes. All i could find was the one thread saying to jump the bottom 2 right pins on the 14 pin diagnostic connector under the dash. But my connector doesn't have 2 pins on the bottom right?. mine has 7 pins across the top,and one on the bottom right. I just need to know what pins to jump to get the codes to flash?

My truck seems to have the exact symptoms as the link below. I wonder what was the outcome?

Thanks,

your diagnostic port should look like this, with more than just the two wires. insert a paper clip into the two ports shown on this diagram, turn key on, DO NOT START, just turn key on. watch your check engine light. it should flash once pause flash twice 3 times. after this, the codes stored will come in flashes as well. for example a trouble code of 45 will flash 4 times pause flash 5 times. it will repeat this 3 times for every code stored. after you get codes, turn key off, then remove paper clip.

THANK YOU, yes I pulled a code 24. Wonder what code 24 is?..

Oh, I think code 24 is Vehicle Speed Sensor malfunction...Can anyone confirm this? and where is it located e.t.c.

Yes,Thank you. its the VSS. I know it shuts off my my fans after 70mph on my 96 Impala.. But on a '88' S10 with a mechanical fan? who knows, what does the VSS control on a '88' S10? Lol...Maybe thats why my S10's speedo is off by 10mph...I need to find out where it's located and get another...

vss does control the speedo. should be on the tail of transmission, 2 or 3 wire connector
