Default How to remove tailshaft bearing 4wd?

auto, 231c transfer case. I'm renewing u-joints and read these bearings are common failure? I figured I'd replace it but my small snap ring pliers can't get the C-clip off! Plus..once off, does the bearing come out of its' bore easy? Mine seems to have a light layer of rtv around it..
