my truck is reving up and down while in 5th i have heard of this called hunting??
it seems like when im in 5th gear going 60,70,80,90 and sometiems 100 kms my truck idles up and down a few grand like 3rpm sometimes like 5rpm if its doing it really bad doesnt do it as much if my truck is cold and never noticed it doing this if i put it into number 3 just in overdrive it does it does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? its a 1999 chevy s10 zr2

if it is only doing it overdrive it could be the servos for that gear going out. if its not catching all the way or slipping it will cause the engine to rev higher to try and maintain the speed you are going. i would have the transmission looked at

with the 700r4 and any eltronically controlled transmission there are things called servos. the job of the servo is to shift the transmission into the gear you have selected. if a servo is not working properly it will not shift the gear either all the way which would cause you high rpms or not shift at all.
