i have a 98 s10 5 speed and i was told to just take a vice grip to the shifting knob but i don't want to until i get some more info on it so i don't damage the sifting knob. anyone know how to take the knob off?

From what I remember, the factory shift knob is glued on, and there is no threads...

Get a Hurst or B&M short throw shifter for it, so you can throw on whatever knob you want :)

shifter knob

The knob is part of a threaded tube .That goes over a shaft. That has a jam nut at the bottom of it.Locking the two together.
