I see 2 transmissions Hydra-Matic 4L60 & Hydra-Matic 6L90 which trans comes w/ 013 express w/ the 4.8 litre? Does the vin# revel the trans? Thanks

a few years ago I actuely looked at the brochure (not 013 but little older vans) but only saw 4 speed auto.

doe's this 6 speed trans have known problems? I mainly tow a 3500LB boat on 200+ mile one way trips. are there now 2 overdrives or did gm just add gears and we now experience just more shifts. I like a tall first gear.
I don't have access to the codes lable what are the chances of this vehicle having LSD rear end?
Thanks MM joe.

The 6-speed will have an additional planetary gear stage. Better fuel economy (how much, I don't really know). More moving parts and complexity. I suspect they will have more electronics as well. The more complicated they are, the more often they fail in my opinion.
The 4L60 is old as the hills, time tested, and reliable.

Limited slips rear axle will be indicated by the code 'G80' on the RPO sticker on the door.

I thought I remembered the new 6 speeds being problematic in the newer 5th gen camaro around 2010.
wasn't sure of exact problems. I'd personally like to avoid any known gm problems.

just read briefly a little about the 6L80 & 6L90 slipping, hard shifts ect. to me this isn't good.

you know I need a new van, think I'll concentrate on a 04-06 preferably a 6.0 w/ a 4L80E which I hope it comes w/.

I am awakening to reality the desired van 04-06 1500 explorer conversion van model YF7 upfitters price has tripled since the flu,( I think there 5.3 w/ 4L60e is acceptable)
so I may be forced to get a cargo, that's if they haven't sky rocketed also.

I read that this 6L90 was first available in 07 curious what my gmt360 07 Saab 97x 5.3i AWD has for a trans. I think it has a 4 speed. thanks MMJoe.

Watch JR Go on youtube I think last year bought a 2010 GMC pickup to flip that had this transmission in it and he spent like four grand to replace it before he sold the truck. He mentioned they had issues and failed ... but I forget what kind of miles it was.

gm never seases to amaze, have you heard of the gm truck rear ends built in Mexico where there to lazy to tighten the internals that destroys the diff.?
got a JR link I rarely y-boob anymore since the takeover.
looks like I better stick to the 04-06 models.

edit: I mite be converting a cargo into a high-top camper. like this. thanks

you think the Mexican robot that assembles the rear end is lazy?

Even if it was assembled by hand, the Mexican guys i work with are fantastic....better than most Canadian and American techs.

so have you heard of this known problem?

after I reread it did sound like I was criticizing the mexican ppl for being lazy, that wasn't my intent I was critizing a defective part is just happen to keep coming from there. I'm sure theres some that know how to properly tighten a bolt.

I just priced a 021 explorer conversion over $95K now I find out all this negatives example: slipping & hard shifts trans, rears ends destroying themselves ect. these aren't small cheap parts they are deal breakers.

either method robot or by hand it's rediculous none existing quaility control. just saying that chevy is suposed to be made in USA (at least thats what they lead to belief in there fake commercials that should say made from parts from who knows where

and the assembled in usa) not mexico/canada this that and the other parts not just big stuff like rear ends alot of delco so called gueine gm is from a forieng country that basicely hates the USA.

The channel is "Watch JR Go" and has enough subscribers the guy just bought a big warehouse to serve as a shop to work out of for video content. I can't imagine it wouldn't come right up in the search box.
