Convert 2004 Suburban to Rack & Pinion?
Hi all,
I want that rack and pinion feel but I don't want to fabricate everything. Has anyone already done this? Maybe used a later model R&P from a 2007?
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

don't try this, if the rack isn't perfectly set up you will have a dangerous condition call bump steer. parallelogram steering is a stronger set up. this project is best left to a car builder or engineer not a backyarder.

I'm not an ordinary "backyarder". Bump steer is a problem in race cars but will have no effect as I cruise down the interstate on stock wheels and tires but I appreciate the warning. What I am hoping is that someone out there has done this and get tell me to take the rack from xyz truck and brackets from abc truck etc.

I had integral steering on my old truck. My new one has rack and pinion and I hate it. Wish I could switch. It pulsates when making sharp turns at idle, and when I drive down really rough roads it tries to break my fingers off. Integral gave me more control and sharper turning too.

no. Its present on vehicles after the rack gets moved from an impact. So if it mounted wrong ie. if the rack isn't level or the geometery is wrong, the toe change during jounce and rebound will be wrong
