I have a 2010 silverado 4x4 with 5.3 and just trying to find out when is a good time to replace the shocks. I have about 55K miles on the truck.

If they are still working like they are supposed to then why change them. Wait till they need to be changed.

Thats what I was thinking but just wanted to see when some people were changing theirs.

I replaced the factory ones on my 07 Tahoe at about 70k miles which was about 5 years... I used OEM replacements from Amazon...

Sweet deal thanks. I've noticed on my truck that every winter for the past two years I hear a cricking sound in the front. It only does it when its cold and the truck sits over night. After I drive around for a bit the noise stops. I'm sure its nothing but have you had that happen on your tahoe?

That sound is the rubber of the front sway bar bushings getting rock hard from the cold. When the bar flexes and rotates with front suspension movement the rubber gripping the bar chatters as the bar slips on the hard rubber...
A few shots of silicone lubricant will remedy it for a while...you can also replace the bar bushings with grease-able ones....

That sounds about right after the temp drops below 40 is when it does that. I'll probably do the silicone lubricant then eventually replace them. Thanks for the heads info.

I had the exact problem with my 2011 Silverado. Yes it gets cold in AZ :).


There is a recall from GM for this problem. If yours is the same source it sounds like it is coming from the suspension but it is an engine problem.


It only occurred on cold morning - under 40 - and it stopped once the engine warmed up.
