01 Silverado 1500, 10-Bolt Rear Differential - Fluid
Hey boys,
Noticed the rear differential was leaking on the truck last week so this weekend I got around to changing the seal/fluid. After replacing the cover with the new seal/fluid, I noticed we've still got a leak. Where the bottom of the cover meets the actual differential there is a hairline crack.
Have the new cover/seal package on order, going to replace it this weekend. One question though, what fluid is recommended for this truck? It's a 2001 Silverado 1500, Ext. Cab, 5.3L Vortec, 4x4, 10-bolt rear end.
Thanks,
-Dane

Okay, that's also what I was told, but when we changed the seal/fluid last week my buddy said 90W-140 (or is it 140W-90?), so that's we used. He said the locker in the rear end needs this (although he has a 2500 HD). The truck is still sitting and hasn't been driven since the change, so if that's not the correct fluid I still should be okay until this weekend when I change the cover/seal/fluid again.
Thanks again,
