I'm trying to help a friend get better fuel mileage in his 07 Silverado. He is older and doesn't know about computers so I'm askingfor him.. He has a diesel 6.6L V6 FI with about 4000 miles on it but doesn't know much more about it other that his 04 got great mileage with a chip 18-22 and he is being told that it is not possible to modify his 07 model. Is this true? Is there a flash that he can get? He is getting 14-15 right now.
Thanks for letting me drop in on y'all.

I know two friends who bought two Volvo big rig trucks and the dealer told them it would take about 50,000 miles before they would start getting more than 5 MPG or better. For months these two said they were getting an average of 4.7 MPG, our usually MPG is around 5.7, we meassure in tenths. I know these engines are apples to oranges compared to pickup engines but maybe he needs to break it in some more. I would suggest hauling some heavy loads for awhile and see if it helps.
A performance exhuast system would probably help.

yeah the more you drive the truck, the better the mileage will be, but id say by 15-20xxx miles your motor is completely broke in and getting its top mileage

the newer deisal trucks are getting worse fuel mileage becuase of new emission standards and controls. my friend had an 06 ton with the duramax and stock was getting 17mpg city his new 08 stock only gets 13-14.
you should be able to do CAI and computer programmer to help it.

Upon review, aparently stylin' doesnt list the 07 silverado as compatible with the E-CON, but hypertech (www.hypertech.com) lists it as compatible with the 2500 HD LTZ 6.6 Diesel FI, http://209.12.144.2/Products/Max%20Energy%20EconSo maybe check out another site or possibly Hypertech directly.
