I am in the process of buying my first 2500 Silverado, I have had 1500s in the past and am looking forward to moving up! I found a beautiful 08 that has all the options I wanted, local, and a great price! The only downside is it has one of those metal utility beds (a reading brand) which I don't want or need. I'm thinking I will buy the truck then replace the bed with a used regular bed. Will there be any problem remounting a factory bed? I don't know if they change anything else structurally when they install those utility beds. I was also thinking about contacting a large used truck bed yard locally and asking if they would be willing to trade as I will have no use for the old utility bed. Also what are those things worth? It's in very nice condition with lots of doors for storage. I would hate to swap bed for bed and then find out its worth 5k and a new factory bed is only 2k (from some light research I've done). I know it sounds like a lot of trouble but the price is very good on the truck and it is the exact color and options I wanted so its worth it to me if its doable. Thanks for any input!

Don't forget to factor in the cost of painting the bed because the one you find will probably be a different color.
