Default 1990 pick-up NO START

I have a 90 Chevy Scottsdale 1500. 130000 miles
It is running a 350 with throttle body injection.
One day just quit. Brought it home and it started, lot of black smoke. Found 2 codes on the computer O2 sensor (found broke) and temp switch (below -27 for 30 seconds at start-up).
Changed the 02 sensor, gave a complete tune-up.(plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter) Has never had a tune-up since I have owned it, so it was due.
Tried to start, would not start. Thought may need some gas to prime the fuel filter (????) put some into the throttle body after a few tries it started.
Pulled it out of the barn and let it warm up.
Turned it off. Would not restart. After a few times it finally started. RAN GREAT!. Took it for a ride, got down the street and it died again. Restarted it would only run full throttle with no RPM's. After about 3 or 4 minutes of running that way I let it stall out. Got out of the truck and found the muffler RED hot (glowing).
Thought it to be a plugged cat. converter. Cut the cat. out. No change can not restart at all. It has good spark, fuel coming Thur the injectors and cranks fine.
The only code is 15 (temp below -27 degrees for more than 30 seconds)
I do not know how to reset that code.
Any help would be great.

Also now put it a ignition module and still nothing

Thank you

Todd

Did you change the temp. sensor ??? It's thinking that it's cold and running way too rich.

Changed the temp sensor.
It was bad but it still does not start.
Sounds better, it seems to fires on a couple on cylinders (when pumping the pettal) but it will not start.
Any ather things to check?
No codes in the computer now.

It could be distributor problem... worn gears.

Could it be the pick-up coil in the dist.?
Do you know what the resistance it should have?

You mentioned changing the rotor and cap ... did that included a new ignitioncoil ???

Remove the wires from the pick up coil to the module ...with your ohmmeter set to the highest value test each wire ( separately ) to ground... reading should be infinite for both.

Then put your meter on both leads and should have within 500 - 1500 ohms and flexing the wires there should be no change ( steady value reading ).

If the pickup coil is bad you might look at replacing the whole distrib. since it has to come out anyway to replace the pick up coil.

OK...I had the EXACT same problem on my 1990 K1500 350....Stalled out on me one day...took it to a shop and the fuel pump was only putting out 9 psi(barely within the limits) Got it back and it ran good for a day....finally traced the problem to a faulty coolant sensor that is mounted on the Intake...$20 part that cost more than $600 to find []

What I would suggest: look at the jets to see if there is enough fuel// the magnet in the distributor could be worn//make sure your plugs are gapped to the correct setting//make sure the firing order is correct//check timing//reset the computer//and if all else fails...set the damn thing on fire!!

GOT IT RUNNING!!!

It was the combo of the O2 sensor and the Temp Sensor together.
The temp sensor told the injectors to spray way too much fuel flooding the engine completely.
I pulled all the plugs and let it just sit for a day to air it all out.
Put the plugs back in and it fired right up!

Running good not, thanks to everyone for the help!

Glad you got it. Now you don't have to set it on fire.

It was the combo of the O2 sensor and the Temp Sensor together.
That's why the cat got red hot... too much unburned fuel.

The temp sensor told the injectors to spray way too much fuel flooding the engine completely.
like I said earlier... thinking it was cold so run rich.

Btw... you might change your oil since it was flooded enough to wet the plugs you'll have gas in the oil.
