Default 1996 Silverado BTSI

I have a 1996 Silverado that wouldn't shift out of park, someone told me I could just remove the brake switch or whatever you call it and just drive it like that. Well I did but without the switch I have no brake lights....So my question is what exactly is this brake switch called is it the BTSI? Where can I buy one? Or can I put this one back in and bypass it or override it somehow so that I can shift my truck? Thanks in advance!

Just taking the switch out will solve nothing. Its gotta be present to shift out of park. It has to be replaced.
