Question 1997 Chevy C/1500 V6 4.3 Vortech Possible engine swap?

Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentalmen,
I have a 1997 Chevy C/1500 V6 4.3L Vortech. Well It's old and tired. I am saving up to swap it out since I have a crack from the last owner(my father) who thought it would be good to replace the Coolant with water in the winter to save a buck or two. What would be a good engine to swap it out with?

I've been looking at a remanned 4.3L engine at Advance auto which is the same engine I have in it already. But I was thinking of throwing on a Carb or Thottal body. or even put on Holley's Throttal body EFI. The truck is already running on fuel injection but I don't know if it will be worth switching over to Throttal Body EFI or if there is an EFI kit for the fuel delivier system the truck as already.

Parts the I know I HAVE to place are as follows: Intake Manifold and Water Pump, and the Engine Block.

Also, Random question is the Tachometer, Speedometer, Odometer, and the Gear selector stopped working. I am not sure why but I was wondering if ya'll would know a reason. the cluster panel works. We replaced it and the problem was still there. Soo I have no clue what problem could be.

Thanks for reading my rant and questions.
Robb.

Before you buy a rebuilt engine, check with Chev or Jegs.com to compare a new engine price with that of a rebuilt. You'll be surprised.
