Default 2001 2500HD 4x4 Silverado Lo-Tow-Power

6.0 L gas truck was purchased to tow a 7500 lb tongue pull trailer. 1st attempt was a 6% grade, ambient temp. 75 degrees, in tow/haul mode, 3rd gear. Truck struggled to maintain 40 mph while standing on the accelerator. I tuned the truck with plugs, fuel filter, oil change. 2nd attempt had the same results. I then purchased the Hypertech power programmer and made some adjustments that pertained to fuel octane and tire size. 3rd attempt had similiar results with what is best described as truck does not seem to respond to acceleration after 1/2 throttle. Any ideas? Should i be looking into a proffesional tuneup, or after market addtions geared towards power increases.

I think it's a gear ratio issue, not the motor.

I believe the options for this vehicle are 3.73:1 (tow rating 9900 lbs)and 4.10:1 (tow rating 12400 lbs), I assumed the vehicle has 4.10:1, even if not 7500 lb trailer is way under the 9900 lb rating for 3.73:1. Am I missing your point? Just got this truck so really not in a position to trade. Would really like to make it work and feel comfortable towing out of the valley. What would you suggest?

a diesel will help alot.....jk....

well depending on the depth of your wallet, you could opt for a great tuner(edge/bullydog/....not hypertech.even though hypertech has a proven track record tunes are getting better with better programmers....you could try a 3" manifold back exhaust with high flowing cat and muffler.(or no muffler)..headers will also help open her up a bit. and you could try a cold air intake..i feel you on the whole towing with a gasser..went through some rear ends and trannys..finally got my pulling machine...and it sounds like your set up for gears?..the options are endless...pick and choose the best mod first...good luck

And how's that transmission filter that's supposed to be changed every 35K miles? What?

Note, on the 4l80E tranny, many times the gasket is solid, @1/8" thick, and is made to be re-used.
