Default 2003 Extended Cab Silverado

Hopefully someone here has run across this problem. 2003 Silverado, Extended cab, 4.3 V6, not a 4WD.

The front of my truck sounds like I am back driving my '73 Blazer with 36" Buckshot Q's. The hum is loud and pronounced, sounds like it's coming from the front left wheel. Took it in to the local tire place, rotated tires - balanced etc. still the roaring hum... went to the local chevy place. Mechanic drove it and told me it's the hub assembly. Ok, went home, ordered Timken hub assembly off the net. Installed hub assembly, cranked it up and took it out on the road. Same noise - any ideas?

I'm lost at this point, what else would give it that distinctive hum/roar like I have mudders on the truck.

The noise goes away when I steer to the left. Straight ahead, or curves to the right give the same noise.

Thanks,
jtbryant

The obvious thing is the bearing, but you said you replaced the hub, so that can't be it. The only other thing I could think of is this: I used to have a car that had a bad shock, and it caused the tire to sort of bounce and had flat spots. Sounded just like a bad wheel bearing. But you also said you rotated the tires, so the sound should also be coming from where you rotated that tire to. Only things I can think of...

That's what I was afraid of... I was hoping someone here with a 2003 Silverado has had the same issue and might be able to give me some guidance before I go broke replacing everything in the front end.

Thanks
