Werd on U-joints. As for cam, I'm at a loss.

Ditto on the u-joints for the clunk, but I couldn't make a cam suggestion to save my life.

i can suggest great cams for older rigs, even the simple obd1 systems. but these new systems? couldn't tell ya how big is too big for the computer. a few years ago, car craft magazine did an upgrade to the 5.3. a new gm cam, pcm reprogram, and couple other basic mods, they gained 100hp. i'll see if i can't dig up the article.

sounds like unanimous vote on the u joints. i've had this problem with my truck and its not really a problem. do you experience this when only going from first to 2nd? my problem was making a loud clunk from park to reverse. gm set these trucks up to have a little lash in the u joints. dont ask me why they did this. but i've taken it to the dealer a couple times and the u joints have been within factory spec. good luck.
