4L80E Transmission matches?

Ihave a 2000 Silverado that needs a transmission, it's a 4L80e I think, it's an vortec engine and a 1500 extended 4 door cab. what other transmissions will work? And if I swaped transmissions from a Astro van, which is a 4L80e, will it work with the vortec's wiring and computer? Any advice would be helpful, thanks!

Hey there: I have a 2000 Silverado Z71 with 142k miles and the 4L60E. Last week, the transmission "fell out" in the middle of I-85 at rush hour. I lost third and fourth gears but still had second so I was able to get off the interstate and get a flatbed tow home. I had my 4L60E rebuilt and upgraded with upgraded shifter plates, shift *****, new clutches for all the gear sets, a new planetary set (for third I believe), reman torque converter, new shifter solenoids throughout, new gaskets, fluid and filter for about $2k with a 24 month full warranty. The shop even changed my leaking rear main seal for free while the case was out. I know that is a lot of cash money but you would not believe how much better the tranny is.
Point of the story is this, if you have a good trans around to swap then that may work out great but if not, the higher cost of the rebuilt may save you more in the long run if you keep the truck. A lot of my trans internal parts were upgraded to better quality than original and now you cannot even feel the shifts. I would also guess that if your truck has the 4L60E then the onboard computer will not talk to the 4L80E even though they are probably similar. Are the ratios the same? Is the 80 heavier duty or lighter?
Good luck with your truck! Nothing worse than a bad trans.....

2k is pretty normal for the range of a new/rebuilt tranny for the 4L60E, I picked up a remanufactured GM 4L60E for about $1400 and spent about $400 to have it installed, it would have cost me about 2k to have my old one rebuilt so its about the same but the remanufactured goes in a lot quicker

i agree with xrmugen on this one, anyone operating a tranny shop knows how to beef these week stockers up for about the same price and they will last alot longer than those from the OE's, at least thats what i have seen so far
