4wd problems
hey everyone, back again LOL.99' Silverado ext.cab short bed,5.3L 4x4. After replacing the front Diff. actuator. The front diff. will still not engage. I can hear the new actuator engaging and can hear the transfercase engage.Alsow any reason why 4low doesn't like to be in overdrive? Thanks

as for the 4lo in overdrive, not a good idea. overdrive is meant for highway cruising speed, 4lo is not. they end up fighting each other. if your sure the front actuator is engaging fully, it might be an issue inside the diff. possibly bent or broke fork. you got the floor shift or push button? does it light up to indicate it is in 4wd?

ok put truck up on kack stands.with truck off but in 4wd,front tirtes spin indepentdly of eachother.drive shaft does not turn.start truck up ,put in gear front shaft turns but front tires do not.I tryed putting a 1/2 " washer in the hole where the actuator goes and didn't help.I anyone has an answer please reply. Thanks

Have you tried hooking the front actuator up to the harness before its screwed into the axle, putting it in 4x4 and watching to see if it extends? I had a bad wire from the switch to the actuator on a 98.
If you determine the actuator is working, use a long screwdriver to manualy engage the front axle through the hole where the actuator goes while someone spins the passenger side tire.

maybe try disconnecting positive battery cable for awhile. just had this problem at a local repair shop. 03 silverado with duramax, transfer case shift motor, dash switch, and actuator all replaced, still wouldn't work. unhooked battery cable for half hour, and it started working just fine. repair is a well known, very reputable and knowledgeable shop, but it had him stumped. worth a shot.
