Default 4wd Question

I have a 1999 z71 - anytime I am in Auto 4wd, 4 Hi or 4 Lo, any attempt to turn my wheels while moving forward it's as if there is a binding feeling. The truck doesn't want to move. Anyone experience this same thing and/or know what it may be?

Thanks,
Richard

Really? What is the purpose of binding up while attempting to turn? Would make it tough to mud ride or something like that. I rarely use 4wd, just use it from time to time to exercise the gearbox.

Default binding up

time for 4x4 101.......... any time that a part time 4x4 is enguaged the transfer case is locked 1 to 1 front shaft to rear shaft. if there is the slightest mismatch in the gear ratios, or tire size (wear too) you will have a bind condition. this phenomon is also the reason "some" 4x4's handle like sh!^ on snow and ice, one end is trying to out run the other end I hope that helps? and when you turn one wheel travels a shorter distance than the other 3, the bind issue is amplified greatly. just the nature of the beast.

Could this "bind" cause the tire to break traction in a slow turn on a wet surface?

Possibly tracking this to a previous issue I had...

yes it will, on dry surfaces if the bind gets bad enough the tire with the least weight will slip as well. this "slipping goes on all of the time when you are on the dirt, but dirt slips easily and you do not notice it as I stated it is the nature of the beast
