Default 6.0 swap

I've got a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with a 5.3 vortec in it and i pull alot I got 190,000 on the odometer and getting a bit ery. There is a guy here wanted me to buy his wrecked 2002 chevrolet 2500 with a 6.0 4L80 tranny. I was wondering if i built the 6.0 vortec meaning put about 400 horsepower and 450 torque in with the tranny. If it would bolt right in in my 1/2 ton and not tear anything out.

You'd probably have better luck replacing the engine and tranny as a set. The 6.0L with the 4l80E's better for towing anyway.

That will also leave you with a matching engine and tranny to either trade, sell, or rebuild later.

Thats what i meant but would it bolt in or would there need to be some modifations like to the cross member or would if have to get a different drive shaft or even a better rear end. I'm just making sure cause more or less i want to turn my 1/2ton in to a 3/4ton jut for better pulling.

I think if you measure the transmission crossmember and engine motormounts you'll see they mount up in the same spots.

You haven't mentioned the body styles and bed lengths of either truck. Are they the same?

I would think you would have to transfer over the ECM, TCM and possibly harnesses. Probably crossmember is the same, but unlikely. If you have the complete '02 truck, it can be done. As far as power goes, wouldn't take much to get that motor to 400hp. Maybe a cam, headers and reprogram of the ECM.

www.performancetrucks.net

im a member there, they have guys doing this exact project ALL THE TIME. think about it, your truck comes with either a 5.3 or the 6.0 with either the 4l60e or 4l80e so yes it will fit. if i were you id totally get that truck and do a swap. and look on that forum, everyone builds those motors, those blocks are cheap to buy. on ebay i can get a 6.0 bare block for 147 plus shipping. thats crazy cheap. but yea, i think a guy did the swap, most he had to do was use the other drive shaft and fab up and extend the crossmember to hold teh trans.
