Default 6.0L 2500 Exhaust

I have a2000 Silverado 2500 non-HD 6.0L Gas. I dont exactly have the money to go out and buy an expensive exhaust system so i wanted to comprimise. The other day i drilled about 1/4" holes into the rear or my muffler. i sounded like a race car when i punched it just not as loud and it gave it a deeper idleing tone. well it also decreased my gas milage. my truck has 212,000 miles on it. i get about 6 MPG. but i was thinking about stright piping it. just the muffler not the CAT's. will this sound good or should i take the CATS off anf leave the muffler OR should i take em all off and buy a Flowmaster 44 muffler and striaght pipe the rest? im looking for advice on what would sound good and what would give me better or less gas mileage. Any Advice?

p.s. my exhaust is stock right now.

you cant take the cats off because of emissions testing. what are you looking for in exhaust? sound? power? because if your looking for power. power means your engine is breathing better and using more gas. personally i would go measure your muffler lengthwise and take teh pipe size as well. both inlet and outlet. then go to a performance muffler website and try and get a muffler that matches your dimensions. then if you find one that measures for teh pipe size but a little short for length, you just get some pipe and go to a place and have it welded. midas welded my friends exhaust for 20 dollars. with me i just straight cut my muffler off. and at first put glasspacks on each pipe that came off but that didnt last. so i got a cherrybomb vortex muffler and slapped that baby on and im happy. personally drilling holes into your muffler isnt the best way. now your just going to rust that muffler faster. plus it may sound good in the cab when you gun it but i dont know the sound while a car is next to you. hehe maybe is sounds ricey to them. anyhoo good luck.

thanks. i want sound. that engine is so wore out im going to replace it eventually so power doesn't matter to me. i want a loud deep tough sound. i didnt think about the measuring thing. that sounds like the smart way to go. anyone have any recomendations for a muffler? i heard magnaflow sucks for trucks. ??

well. im not exactly sure. you will need to go to cherrybomb.com to compare the length of your muffler to see if you can get the same length.

magnaflow is deff. not bad at all
life time warranty and they graaaalllllll like crazy with a load on them
at idel they just sit there and purrrr mosly
40 ser. but man you get on it its all on and i have had pretty much all that is out there and nothing as good as mags. as far as i can tell so far.
and my last truck had over 400K on it so yours with 200k on it should be fine as long as you keep that oil changed.
going for over 500K with the new one if i dont trade it by then. on a new on thats what happen to old one.
and i had magnaflows on it too.
