Accumulator Freezing Up
Hello,
I've been having this problem for a while. My truck accumulator freezes up and cold air stops coming out of air vents. I tried google before i started this thread and i found out that it might be cause of a low charge. I don't know how to check this and what's the optimal charge for my 94 silverado. Others say i need to measure high and low pressure.. Where do i start with this as i wanna do this myself and save some money

Yes that's exactly what's happening.. I also noticed that the compressor is not turning off!!. I've been changing pressure switches for a while
but could it be the receiver itself or something else.

i was thinking system to full...the refriderant is evaporating in the accumulator. if its overcharged the evaporator floods and liquid refridgerant evaps in the accumulator. How did you charge the system?
Either that or an orfice tube problem. feel either side of the tubing when the orfice tube is. one side should be hot and the other cold.
the charge level should be marked on a label in the engine compartment.

If the sysem were low on freon, the low pressure switch would cause the system to repeatedly cycle. If the orifice tube is plugged, you would have very little to no cooling and the hi pressure switch would cause the system to shut down.
HOWEVER, if the guts are blown out of the orifice tube, this would allow liquid to get back to the evaporator and start vaporizing at that point.
NO, the dryer is nothing more than a can designed to quiet the noise or 'thumps' of the moving freon from getting back into the cab. Secondary function is to catch tiny bits of ice floating around in the system. It is, more or less, just a "muffler" and the only way they can go bad is if you are T-boned by a semi on the right side. No matter what the parts guys try to sell ya.
First thing is too put a set of gauges on this guy to see what is actually going on.

I would check to see if you are not getting enough air through. Maybe there is a mouse nest somewhere? There could also be dust buildup somewhere in the duct work. I dont know anything about overcharging and undercharging, but i would start by looking for a blockage. You may not even be able to feel a difference, but it can make a difference.
