advice on buying a chevy
I am new here, was hoping maybe i could get some advice, Ive been looking for probably a year but i always get held back by mileage, the newer body style 2008 and up(and the new 14s), i just dont enjoy the body style, the inside and gauges are appealing, not enough to buy a brand new truck, the 2006 model body style appeals to me, but of course this always comes with mileage, theres several lifted in my area(interested in 4x4) whats a safe mileage range and how expensive is a rebuild on a 5.3? I would buy a newer model maybe if the deal is right , i dont outright dislike them they look right, if the right setup is in play! long winded post but i wanted to get an idea of what to look for

I'm also considering a new truck, a 2015 HD with the 6.0 engine supposed to be the same as the 2013 and 2014 models). I tow a 33' fifth wheel (less than 10000lbs), what could I expect for towing mileage?

I'm looking to replace my `03 Duramax. Diesel isn't going down in price & MPG of the new gas engines takes away the diesel advantage. I can't figure out why the GCWR of the 1500 Silverado is greater than the GCWR of the 2500. I tow a 5700lb travel trailer (TT), 7500lbs loaded/full. It has a 750 lb tongue weight. I can't figure out the advantage of getting a new 2500 with the old generation 6.0 gas engine, when the new 1500 5.3 & 6.2 eng's offer VVT. DI, & AFM and a greater GCWR. If I had to carry more than 2000 lbs payload in a 1500, I'd need the 2500. But for towing the GCWR is THE most important figure, right ? How can the GCWR for a new 2500 be less than the 1500's. What am I missing ? thnx so much.

Mileage is important, but more important is the maintenance and care the truck received. A high mileage truck that had regular oil and filter changes and was well cared for is still a good truck. My 99 had 175,000 miles on it and the motor ran like new.

2014 Silverado 1500 Double cab, Stnd box, 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine 2WD, 3.73 rear end - has a GCWR of 16700 lbs. (it's the same for the Crew cab, either box size)
From the Chevy website on the 2015 2500HD it reads - Only offered in Crew cab, either box size, 3.73 rear end, Vortec<sup>®</sup> 6.0L Variable Valve Timing V8 FlexFuel engine 2WD. This 2500 HD has a GCWR of 16000 lbs. Larger eng, stronger suspension, etc. etc. Why is it's GCWR less than the half ton truck ?
Both of these charts do not reference the "trim" , so I'm not sure why you asked about trim. I assumed the LT, LTZ, etc packages do not chg the weights (GVWR) very much.
Also from the same website page it shows the 2015 2500HD with 6.0L V8 SFI gaseous engine, (2WD or 4wd) carries a GCWR that is 4500 lbs more than the regular 2500 HD w/the Vortec<sup>®</sup> 6.0L Variable Valve Timing V8 FlexFuel engine. Same 3.73 rear end. That's 16000 vs, 20500. How can the CNG option increase the GCWR 4500 lbs ? It's not possible that I know of. Are these charts from Chevy in error ? thnx so much
