Default Alloy rims

I recently purchased a set of alloy rims/tires from a 2006 2500 HD to put on my 2005 2500 HD. I had steel rims. I cannot get the center caps to screw to the lug nuts. Are the holes in the alloy rims recessed and that sets my lug nuts deeper? Do I need new lug nuts or caps? Thank you for any replies.

you need the lug nuts that are threaded on the outer end. that's what the cap screws to. regular lug nuts won't work.
