Autotrack 2 Diff Fluid
Hello all, I just bought an 01 Silverado 1500 Z71 with the Autotrack system. I was looking in the owners manual and found out it used a special Autotrack 2 fluid in the differential. What is this mystery fluid? Is it a synthetic transmission fluid? Has anyone used any other fluid in the diff?
Thanks,
James

The Autotrak II fluid is for the automatic( ie; push button )transfer case on 4WD's. It is not for the differentials. The diff's use gear lube( probably 80W-90 in the front and 75W-90 in the rear ).Regular manual transfer cases( ie; w/ floor shifter ) use Dexron III.
Don't use Autorak IIin a manual t-case and don't use DexIII in an auto t-case. You need to use the appropraite fluid in the t-case as they are not interchangeable. DON'T use the Autotrak II in your diff's.

My bad, I meant transfer case. I bought some today (only $6 a quart) and it is a blue fluid. How crazy is that. How come they can't use a synthetic fluid or something? No, this wacky blue stuff. Thanks, James
