Question Changing Gears

I have a 2005 LT Crew with 5.3L and a 3.23 rear end. The 3.23 is lacking the torque and power I need to pull my boat without shifting down every friggin incline. As I know it I have two options, replace the entire rear end or just re-gear it. Was wondering the pro's/con's of each and what ratio would be best 3.42 or 3.73 w/o sacrificing too much gas mileage.

Thanks in advance!!!

how often do you pull your boat and do you have bigger tires?

and do you row other things that are heavier? 3.73s will help out way more than the 3.42s. best all around gear. but you'll need to tune it since your speedo will be off

Speedo can be readjusted through access to the engine computer by the dealer or someone with a device that plugs into it. The dealer will rob you for a five minute job, find someone with the same truck and one of those after market chips they can redo the speedo and adjust for tire size.

I wasn't talkin bout the dealer boss...just any person that can tune a truck. might as well get some horsepower and torque for when you tow and for just everyday fun

when i had my half ton axles, they stock were 3.42 great fuel eco about 17 believe it or not,--blew them and went to 3.73 better towing and still got 16,--blew them and went to 4.10 awsome for towing and off road dropped to 14.5mpg tach at 65 was right over 2000rpm. thats all with 33's if you have stock tires and stuff i would reccomend 3.73 like said above from other member best all around gears.
