Default Chrome vs stainless steel

I am looking at buying running boards or nerf bars for my new truck. I see both stainless steel and chrome ones. Which ones are better? Which ones hold up better?

I would say stainless since it can be buffed and resealed with clearcoat if needed; whereas, chrome is more expensive to repair.

But it really all comes down to personal preference. Chrome is usually a lot shinier.
