Door Serial Numbers ?
I have a 2006 Crew Cab 2500 HD and it got hit on the passenger door . Insurance and body shop said the had to put on a used door cause the truck was over 2 years old, the problem i have is i think they tryed to repair the door instead of putting a other one on . Wondering if there were serial numbers on the door some where to prove it if so how do i match it to the truck . they will not give me receits for the used door either .
thanks

I don't know about a serial number, but if the door was repaired, there is going to be plastic filler on it where ever the damage is. Take a magnet and run it over the area that was damaged, if there is a spot where it doesn't pull, there is filler in there and the door was repaired.
Also, if it was repaired, then they probably didn't paint the inside door skin. Look for a tape line on the edge of the door. If you find a tape line, then only the outside skin was painted. (Presumably because your old door was repaired and didn't need the inside painted).
Nothing rock solid.. wouldn't hold a lot of water in court or anything. But it will either put your mind at ease or you will know the truth.
I work in a body shop, and typically if the panel is damaged beyond a small dent or two, we buy a new part (or find a used one). So unless this is a shady shop, they probably replaced it.

Although something is fishy. Aftermarket suppliers make parts well beyond 2 years. So does the dealership. There should be no problem at all finding a door for a 06 Chevy truck.
If it was a 96, maybe, but 06, they could have found a new part easily. I can look up the Keystone part number if you wanted, and you could take it and slap the shop manager with it... Chances are it's the insurance company being cheap though.
