So would you reccomend a heat pad that uses a adhesive to heat the oil then?

Heres some history for you. Back in the days when you only had light and heavy oil,those who had to use a vehicle every day would drain the oil when they finished in the eve,take it in the house by the stove,then pour it back in the next morning.

Can you provide a little back ground on where and why you want to pre-heat the engine?
Anywhere in the lower 48 states you shouldn't need to pre-heat if you are using 5w-30...
I do tend to agree that using a battery blanket or a trickle charger can be a good idea for vehicles that is in extended cold areas...

I checked Amazon, type in engine heaters and boy there is just all kinds of stuff...

I live in eastern colorado , and when it gets down to 30 degrees and below I use about ten gallons of gas more per week due to running the pickup to defrost and heat the cab. The reason I let it get warm before I take off is that living on a dirt road when it snows the road drifts badly, and it is hard on the engine to take them on in 4wd when it is cold.

I feel you brother,when you sit down on the seat and it is so cold it dont bend you know its going to be a hard day.
