Default exhaust flow

i have a 96 chevy truck 350 vortec with true duals out the back and was wondering what would happen if i totally cut out the cat on each pipe,,,would that trip sensors, bad gas millage, would the truck even run.....the reason i ask is cuz i think they are plugged and i know there expensive

If you cut the cats out your engine light will stay on and will more than likely use more gas. You have an oxygen sensor on each side of both cats. If you cut them out the second one should tell the computer it's running lean. Or if you cut them out it won't have a signal and it won't run right. What makes you think they are plugged? Your best bet is to spend the money to replace them. Even if you do it yourself and clamp them on. You know that way it is running right too.
