Gear Ratio - Rear End 1996 C1500
This is a 1996 C1500 W/T 5 speed manual transmission 4.3L Vortec V-6
6 3/4 bed
All stock
Any idea on the rear end gear ratio?
Being 17 years old with 240K miles, but runs and drives great, doesn't burn oil, AC still blows cold; but the old 262 at 200 hp and a 5 speed manual trannie has always been sluggish - need a little more get up and go
Suggestions: Different gear ratio? Convert to a Turbo 700R4 automatic? A rebuilt and bigger engine will too much for me to handle, but I do have the means for either a rear end upgrade or trannie swap.

Cool - thanks. I have a GU4 3.08
I've changed the cat twice, it clogged up (just a small less than dime size hole was left open) at around 100K miles and then a had a faulty one that kept the check engine light on at around 200K miles.
The 99% clog at 100K never made the check engine light come on.

Due you have the stock size tires?if you go to an auto trans you need the computer to shift it,can you disconnect the cat to test it easily?if the engine is in a good state of tune you could look into a tune ex blackbear, nelson not sure if they do V6's
