Default Grinding in rear end on acceleration.

Hey guys,

First time poster here. I have a 2003 Chevrolet 1500 HD and after doing some heavy towing, I'm now getting a nasty grinding noise towards the rear end when I accelerate from a dead stop. I obviously damaged something when I was towing.

It doesn't do it if you accelerate normally from a stop, just if you accelerate quickly and does it real bad when I accelerate from a dead stop on an upwards incline.

I had a friend who said he thought it was the u-joint, but from what I read, bad u-joints make more of a clanking sound when shifting into gear and such.

I hope I didn't bend something, but I would think it would do it all the time then, not just under certain conditions.

Any ideas?

Default

Okay so after posting the above thread, I thought I'd go out and have another look at the drive shaft. I found what may be the problem. It appears that the rubber piece that holds up the drive shaft is broken and so it's sitting down on the metal u-bracket. The drive shaft moves all around right there...I doubt it's supposed to.

Default Grinding in rear after driving about 5-10 miles.

Help! I can’t find anything that sticks out at me. There’s this grinding noise coming from the rear, but it only does it intermittently and usually after I’ve driven over 5-10 miles and once it starts to make the noise it doesn’t go away until I park it and leave it overnight. Any ideas?
