Default loose/free steering

Hi, I have a 1997 Chevy Z71 that I just recently bought. The steering on it is very free, it does not have free play in it, it just feels like it is free floating like you are not even turning anything at all. I don't know what the problem is but was hopeing you guys could help me. Thanks
