Question Miles..

OK, I'm curious to know peoples opinion on this. I have to admit that as far as vehicle upkeep knowledge goes, I'm fairly new to everything. I owned a Mazda 3 (2012) a couple years back but I passed it on to my brother. I just financed an '09 Chevy Silverado 1500 2WD with 106k miles on it. (Currently at 108k)

I've read articles where people say miles aren't always that big a deal, and that the service and maintenance is what really matters.

So with that being said, my truck runs perfectly. It's a smooth ride and below is a list of the things I did to it once I got it.

- Oil Change
- Replaced Vent Solenoid
- Changed Air Filter
- New Tires
- New Battery

Like I said, the truck is in great condition, but since it does have 108k miles on it, would anyone consider that amount of mileage a bad thing? I would greatly appreciate the responses. Thanks in advance!

Not at all. 108K is low miles on many motors. it is all about how well it was maintained and driven. A well maintained vehicle, along with driving it properly, and there is no reason a modern vehicle cannot exceed 250,000 miles. There are fleet pickups that are exceeding 300,000 miles.

On the flip side, a poorly maintained vehicle that is abused, it is not going to last very long.

From what you stated how it runs and drives, I would not worry.

My advice anecdotal as it may be, would be to read your owners manual and observe the recommend maintenance schedule...
It may be running great now, but if you replace the plugs as recommended now its likely to continue running problem free for the next 100k miles, where as if you wait for them to start failing it could lead to other problems i.e. the catalytic converter going out because a plug or 2 was mis-firing causing un-burnt fuel to enter the cat, shorting its life...
Preventive cost more up front, but can save you money in the long run....

Ah, for the days of only 108k mi!! Maintenance is key as Pro says and don't drive stupid and they usually go a long time. My 93 is at 340k, my 05 at 250k.

This is all true, but they are closely linked.
