Default Motor Conversion help

I'm being challeneged to drop a v8 into this v6 4.3 2000 chevy silverado. Problem is i know nothing about domestics. Just imports a t this point in time. I'm curious as to what motors i cna put into this vehicle. I've learned i need to get the v8 wiring harness. But with that what motor? a 454 is what i have in mind he's thinking 350. I need to know if i need to get a special mount kit or does this usually plug and play. Also what kinda transmission must i use. He wants to upgrade its just i have no idea what to get or where to start. If someone can help me on some simple info here i'd greatly appreaciate it.
