Alright, I am new to the forum. I have been apart of others and they help out alot. I am wondering, since I just bought a truck, which programmer is worth the money? I have a 2001 Silverado 1500HD 6.0L. I have been looking at them and really don't know which one to put my money into. I have been looking at the Hypertech, but I have read some mixed reviews. Any help would be great. Thankyou!

ive owned hypertechs and they were worthless. the best thing to do would be to go to nelsonperformance.com and get a custom tune with 80% TM redmoved. most programmers cost as much or more than the custom tune and dont do 1/4 of what the tune can do.

I agree with BAD. I've got a Superchips, but comparing it to others, including custom tunes, you're money ahead to get a custom tune as they typically come with a lifetime tune guarantee, so if you have to remove it to take back to the dealer for service, they will re-install the tune once the dealer has finished, or if there are every any updates for the custom tune, you are generally eligible for these.
If it's $400 one way or the other, go with a custom tune!

I've already got the Superchips tune posted on Youtube. You can take a look at it at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hujzd6uFHds
I've got a custom tune scheduled for Friday afternoon, so I'll get that on video and post in on Youtube as well. Will let you know the results and the specs in comparison...

I had Stephen from East Texas Muscle Cars tune mine. It's a vehicle specific tune, so he does a stock run on the dyno, changes air/fuel, timing, shift points, then does another run on the dyno, then tweaks it some more until it's pushing as much HPas possible. Then he takes it out and does the road test, checks the shifts and listens for detonation. We got an additional 20HP over the Superchips tuner. It's pushing 260.1 to the tires now.
The beauty of having someone custom tune it for you, is every vehicle is a bit different, so the tune is custom tailored to your vehicle. I was super pleased with the results!

I've tried a friends bullydog programmer in my '07 NBS 5.3. I set everything to "Performance" and there was a noticeable difference. It made the rear tires break loose on mine, which it wont do on stock settings. It recommends running 93 octane fuel so i dont know if its really economically worth it or not.
