Default question about trucks

im getting ready to get my permit and im looking for a truck
on craigslist ive seen quite a few z71 and 4x4 silverados in the years i like (88-98)
id like to have a 4x4, but ive heard they get terrible gas mileage
my dad had a 95 z71 that got 15 on the highway
i have also seen a few 1999-2001 but they are outside of my budget (4-5 grand)
i have also seen some 2wd but there are not many in good shape
we dont use 4x4 alot in ky unless your mudding
how should i do with s 2wd off road, should i get a 4x4/z71?
do all of them get that bad of gas mileage
i know they are very reliable trucks

4WD is nice to have but costs more when it breaks down. How does the one your dad has look? Id say all of them get about the same mileage if they have v8's, but thats all in your foot.

he doesnt have it anymore, he traded it in for his 2004
but it was in really good shape, i would take it in the blink of an eye if he still had it
i love that body style
but now that i have a choice im just looking into my options

I would say if you want the 4wd get it like others have said it is all about the way that you drive it. If you keep your foot all of the time you will get like 10-11 probably but if you keep you foot out of it it will be better. If you do get the 4wd get one with a floor shifter not the push button
