Default Questions about purchasing a truck

Tomorrow I知 going to discuss purchasing a 2007 Silverado crew cab, 4x4, automatic, 5.3L, with 30k miles with a dealer. They are asking $22,970. I知 going to ask if the differentials are posi track, and if the gearing is geared low for towing or high for better mileage on the road. Also going to see if I can talk to the previous owner. Is there anything else I should ask about this truck? Thanks

Request a history check on the truck, the dealer as to show you this if you request it (should be at no charge), also request the maintenance log of the truck. They also have to give you the last owners contact info upon request (of course the old owner might have a new number by now). Also don't take their word on the drive train since most lot sellers (even floor room sellers) don't have a clue what you asking and will just agree with you. I asked a seller once for giggles of it if a 4 cyl s10 had 3.73 gears and he just said yes... So if you really wont to know get the vin and look it up on the net at home. A free vin search will show most basic details of the truck.

Hope that helps.

P.S; Those things have crappy fuel mileage btw, like 15 city and 20 highway, but few mods can improve that i guess. Pretty fair price, blue book is $19,566 on that rig.

Hi CONTECH,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

Research the VIN yourself, or copy and decode the RPOs in the glove box.

All the RPO codes are on Google, and they give a complete mechanical background of the truck.

I would prefer to verify the information personally, rather than take a dealership

salesman's word for it .

lol at $23k i wouldnt call that fat, thats just 3k over the blue book which all dealer do, however it is possible for them to lower they price to fit your bank financing if your doing it that way, but its rare.

P.S: That same truck around here is $27-30k, now that as fat built in

Thanks for the replys. I ran the VIN on an internet web page and copied all the info from it. The truck does have a positrac and geared at 3.73 ratio. Is 3.73 a high ratio for better gas milage on the highway? I won't be doing any towing or mudding.
No trade in on this deal. My current truck was totaled by a young man looking at a GPS while I was waiting to turn left.

3.73 is middle of the road. 4.10 is the tower. Many trucks out there with 3.42 as I have in my 05 Z71. I'm not sure if the crew cab comes with 3.42 or not, but I'd rather have 3.73 now that I've experienced the higher gear.

Many prefer the little extra jump you get from 373s from a start, and for the occasional "truck job", or for pulling a tow buddy from a ditch.

Since I do a lot of highway miles, I personally prefer the 342s. They're
doggy in the low end, but also give you lower RPMs at highway speeds.
