Removing Airbags from 98 Silverado
Thief stole truck, thief wrecked truck, now I get back with blown airbags, how do I remove while I save to replace, or do I have to? Truck is rebuilt except for the airbags, how do I get them out?

Steering Wheel Inflator Module Replacement [/align]
Removal Procedure
[ol]Caution:Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
Remove the battery negative cable.
Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
Turn OFF the ignition switch in order to unlock the steering wheel.
[/ol][/align][ol]Turn the steering wheel 90degrees from the straight-ahead position in order to gain access to the access holes behind the steering wheel.
Insert a screwdriver into each access hole and push the leaf spring in order to release the pin that retains the steering wheel inflator module.
Turn the steering wheel 180degrees in order to gain access to the remaining access holes.
Insert a screwdriver into each access hole and push the leaf spring in order to release the pin that retains the steering wheel inflator module.
Tilt the top of the steering wheel inflator module rearward.
Remove the SIR lead wire from the clip on the steering wheel inflator module.
Remove the SIR lead wire from the clip on the steering wheel steering wheel. [/ol]
[ol][*]Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer and the electrical connector.[*]Caution:When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module: [/ol][align=left]
[ol][*]•[/ol]
Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on the inflator module [/align][align=left]

Make sure the bag opening points away from you [/align][ol][*]When you are storing an undeployed inflator module, make sure the bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests. When you are storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal injury may result. [*]
Remove the steering wheel inflator module from the vehicle. [/ol]
Installation Procedure
[ol]Install the electrical connector and the CPA retainer.
Connect the SIR lead wire to the clip on the steering wheel.
Connect the SIR lead wire to the clip on the steering wheel inflator module.
Install the inflator module. [align=left]

Press the steering wheel inflator module firmly on the steering wheel in order to engage and latch the four notched pins.[/align][align=left]
•
Do not pinch the SIR wires during the installation of the steering wheel inflator module.[/align]Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .
Connect the battery negative cable. [/ol]
