Default Replace 265/75x16 with 255/85x16 for 2004 K1500 SWB

Hi all,

As previous posted, I'm in the process of working on a recently acquired 2004 5 spd K1500. It has Extreme aluminum rims, I think 8.5x16 with 265/75x16 Cooper tires mounted. Before I go further, stay with the 265 and current rims? An option would be black painted steel rims, 7x16 with 255/85x16 mounted - tall and skinny. I think I can do this without a lift or cutting. The advantage would be approx. one inch more clearance under the differential.

Gears are 3.73:1 with a G80 in the rear. I do not intend to touch the ring and pinion - they'll stay as is.

It be much less expensive to stay with the 265's, but are there some really good off road gains to going to the taller tire. The vehicle is being built for mainly a mountain rock crawler - West Texas mountains to Appalachian forest trails.
