Replaced the fluid and filter in my 4L60E Today... :)
I want to let everyone know that i had a super successful operation on my truck today, and if you have any of these symptoms it might just be your filter and fluid.
Symptoms:
Truck lurches forward on the 1-2 shift at part throttle or feels like it is hitting two "gears" at once
1-2 shift in tow haul is neck breaking
Slips at WOT for a second on the 2-3 shift but will only do it when you pass someone
Shifts feel hard and sloppy
The reason i did this is today is my gut told me to, and after driving my bosss truck and his not doing what mine does, i felt i had nothing to loose. I ordered exactly five quarts of napa premium oil with a shallow pan filter. After i drained the oil and realized i had a deep pan, the napa guy actually screwed up and sent a deep pan kit instead of what i ordered, so after feeling a massive relief for not having to drive 80 miles to the store i continued. I took all the bolts out and drained the pan. I did end up taking a ATF Bath, but it was worth it. The hardest part was moving the shift linkage bracket and exhaust. Since my truck is leak free i opted to push the pipe with my crowbar to inch the pan out from the trans, and use a screwdriver to pry the bracket out of my way. After i pulled the pan i noticed it was super clean. My fluid was nasty red color but smelled really good. The filter had some regular wear material and was the original part. (Not bad for 141K miles)
