Default RSE troubleshooting

I recently bought a used 2007 Silverado Crew Cab LTZ with the Nav and DVD RSE system. The vehicle didn't come with a remote and I can't get the flipdown Panasonic screen to work (not even a flicker). I can get video to play (via ipod through the center console video input) on the front in-dash screen but nothing on the flipdown. Do I need the remote to turn on the screen or should it come on automatically when video playback is started? Thanks in advance...

Ok, so the RSE flipdown screen works with a dvd. Any ideas as to why it wouldn't work through the video input on the back of the center console?
