Silverado 1500 -89 refuses to start
Hi,
I just bought a 1989 silverado 1500 5,7L V8.
It has been running perfectly all the time until one day when I parked it for 8 hours and it refused to start.
After getting it to a garage I saw that the sparkplugs didn't spark.
There is no fuel pumping, although the fuel pump and filter been changed a couple of weeks ago.
The ignition coil gets electricity.
There are NO troublecodes?!
Any ideas? I'm from Sweden if you're wondering why my english is lacking..

I've measured the voltage to 12,3V at the battery, and 11,8 at the ignition coil. I don't know if that's normal..
No spark, no fuel pumping. The starter is working when I turn the ignition.
That's about it I guess.
The weirdest thing is that it worked just fine all the way to the parking lot.
I'm very thankful for any help I can get!

I think that model has a high energy ignition distributor. If so, pop the distributor cap off, and inspect the pickup coil at the base. The distributor rotor has "teeth" that turn inside the coil. It sounds like the insulation is bad on it. It could also be the module.

I had an 82 do the same thing. It was the pickup coil. Also, can you have the module tested? I went through 3 from the parts stoe. They tested bad each time I went back. The last one I bought I had tested before I left the store. Turnd out they didn't know how to hook them up, and were killing them when testing them.
